My Story
I've been there before
Back in 2000, I made the brave decision to begin my recovery from addiction, a hard first step for so many of us. Self-medication was my coping mechanism for dealing with neurodivergence I didn’t even know I had. Pursuing recovery was tough, but it was the most important thing I could have done for myself. I began to get better, and then life got better, too. I gave birth to a beautiful daughter and son and began training to be a nurse to help others experiencing challenges just like mine.

A qualified nurse, questioning the system.
In 2008, I worked in emergency care after qualifying as a nurse. I was horrified at the attitudes toward mental health patients in crisis. I began to see how economically deprived areas were suffering more and more from poor physical and mental health, and how they desperately needed and deserved better care. I felt disillusioned by the NHS and left to pursue
agency nursing.
I was headhunted to join the team at an inpatient addiction and mental health rehab. After 5 years, I identified questionable morals and poor regulations within the private sector that I simply didn’t agree with, and left. It’s now clearer than ever that our mental health support services, both inside the NHS and out, need some serious work. So I decided to do things my way.
Going solo
I completed my counselling qualifications in 2017. At this point, whilst working in palliative care, I’d developed a strong interest in counselling patients and families as they faced end-of-life care for themselves or loved ones.
I was diagnosed with ADHD and menopause in 2020, which really helped me understand my behaviours, thoughts and feelings. But it also highlighted the extreme lack of support out there for neurodiverse individuals like myself, especially those struggling with addictions.
So that became the core of my mission. To counsel and coach those seeking answers. People striving to shape a better life but don’t know where to start.
